What makes up the price of a painting job
Painting is rarely just rolling paint. The job includes protection, preparation and patching, possibly skim coating, two coats of paint and cleaning. Each phase has a work rate, meaning hours per square metre. Once you know the area, you can calculate the hours.
For materials, what matters is the amount of paint, filler and protective sheeting. The quantities come from the area and the number of coats.
When a quote looks too low or too high, the reason is usually in the phases. A quote without preparation will be cheaper on paper and more expensive on the wall. A quote that adds the ceiling when you asked for one wall will be higher than it needs to be.
How to get an estimate, step by step
- Take a photo of the wall or room so the whole surface to be painted is visible.
- Write what is being painted and how many coats, for example "two walls and the ceiling, old paint in good condition". Measurements make the estimate more precise.
- Look at the phases and hours. If preparation on site is lighter or heavier than the app assumed, edit the line.
- Check the material quantities, such as paint in litres and protective sheeting in square metres.
- Enter your own hourly rate and material costs. Print the quote or send it as a PDF.
How Rax Vision calculates
You take a photo of the wall or room with your phone and write what you want done, for example "paint one wall". Rax Vision lists the work phases and hours using professional work rates: two coats on a wall at 0.15 to 0.25 hours per square metre, ceilings at 0.2 to 0.3 and skim coating at 0.15 to 0.3 hours per square metre.
The app keeps the job at the size you asked for. If you wrote one wall, it does not add the ceiling or skirting boards for the whole room. If extra work looks necessary, it appears as a separate note instead of inflating the estimate.
Finally the app adds up the hours, gives a size class and explains the total. In the app's logic a small job is 1 to 8 hours. If the sum does not fit the size class, the phases are corrected before you see the result.
Euros with your own hourly rate
Rax Vision does not invent a price. You enter your own hourly rate and material costs, and the app calculates the quote. You check the lines, edit them and print a PDF or send it to the client.
From the site straight to a quote
The app is made for painters and renovation workers standing on site with a phone in hand. The AI builds the base of the calculation, and you decide what stays in the quote. Uncertain items are listed separately so you remember to check them.
Rax Vision works in Finnish, English, Swedish, German, French and Spanish. Homeowners can use it as well, to see what a painting job consists of before asking for quotes.
