What a kitchen renovation costs are made of
A kitchen renovation combines demolition, preparation, surfaces and installation. Typical phases are protection, removing the old units, skim coating and painting the walls, tiling the splashback, installing the cabinets and connecting the sink and appliances. Electrical and plumbing work is usually done separately by specialist subcontractors.
Cabinet installation has its own work rate: a professional spends roughly 1.5 to 2.5 hours per cabinet carcass. With fifteen carcasses, the gap between the low and high end is already several working days. That is why the number of units matters as much as the brand.
When you compare quotes, look at which phases are included and how many hours each line carries. A quote that leaves out demolition or wall preparation is not cheaper. It just moves the cost to later.
How to get an estimate, step by step
- Take photos of the kitchen showing the cabinets, the splashback and the floor.
- Describe the job, for example "new cabinets, tiled splashback, paint the walls". The number of cabinet carcasses makes the estimate more precise.
- Go through the phases and hours. Mark electrical and plumbing work as subcontracted lines.
- Check the uncertain items, such as the condition of the walls behind the old units.
- Enter your hourly rate and material costs, and print the quote.
How Rax Vision builds the estimate
You take a photo of the kitchen and describe what you want done. Rax Vision lists the work phases, the hours and the material quantities. If the job covers several rooms, the phases are listed room by room so the kitchen and, say, the hallway do not get mixed up.
The app gives a size class, adds up the hours and explains the total. Things that cannot be seen in a photo, such as the condition of pipes inside the wall, go on a list of items to verify on site. The estimate does not hide its assumptions.
Euros with your own pricing
The app does not give a ready euro figure. You enter your own hourly rate and material costs, and the quote is calculated from those. You can check the finished quote, edit it and print it as a PDF.
As the job goes on
The same app turns photos into a site diary entry, a change order notice and a defect list. When something unexpected turns up behind a kitchen wall, the change order is created from the photo and the client sees what it is about.
Rax Vision is built for contractors who do the work themselves and want the paperwork out of their evenings. It came from real site work, and the AI does the first draft while you keep control of the result. Homeowners can use it as well, to understand the scope before asking for quotes.
The app works in Finnish, English, Swedish, German, French and Spanish.
