How much does a bathroom renovation cost? Get an estimate from a photo

Finished bathroom with tiled walls and a glass shower screen

Bathroom renovation prices are hard to guess because every wet room is different. The price is not a mystery though: it is labour hours times the hourly rate, plus materials. Once the hours and quantities are right, the rest is arithmetic.

What makes up the price

A wet room renovation is a sequence of work phases: protection, demolition, preparation, waterproofing, tiling, fixtures and final cleaning. Each phase takes a number of hours, and that number depends on the surface area. That is why two extra square metres of floor can show clearly on the invoice even when the room looks the same.

The second part is materials: tiles, adhesives and grout, waterproofing membrane, floor drain and fixtures. Quantities come from square metres and item counts. The price depends on what you choose.

When you compare quotes, the useful question is not only the total. It is which phases are included, how many hours each one takes and which materials are counted. Two quotes with a similar total can describe very different jobs.

How to get an estimate, step by step

  1. Take a photo of the bathroom showing the floor, the walls and the shower area. Several photos from different angles help.
  2. Write briefly what you want done, for example "new tiling and waterproofing, keep the fixtures". Add measurements if you have them.
  3. Go through the work phases. Each line shows hours and a short reason, and every line can be edited.
  4. Check the list of things to verify on site, such as the condition of the old waterproofing and the position of the floor drain.
  5. Enter your hourly rate and material costs, and the quote is ready to print.

An estimate from a photo

Rax Vision is a phone app that does this calculation from a photo. You take a picture of the bathroom, optionally write what you want done, and the app lists the work phases, the hours for each and the material quantities. The calculation is anchored to professional work rates, for example 1.2 to 1.8 hours per square metre for wall tiling and 0.4 to 0.6 hours per square metre for waterproofing.

The app also checks itself. It gives a size class (small, medium or large job), adds up the hours and explains the total in one sentence. If something cannot be seen in the photo, it says so in a list of things to verify on site. Assumptions are shown, not hidden.

If the job covers several rooms, the phases are listed room by room, so a bathroom and a kitchen are not mixed into one line.

The hourly rate is yours

The app does not invent euros. You enter your own hourly rate and material costs, and the quote is calculated from those. The estimate follows your pricing, not a national average.

Who it is for

Rax Vision is built for contractors who want the quote done before they leave the site. A tiler, painter or renovation crew takes the photo, checks the lines, edits what needs editing and prints a PDF. It was built for real site work, with AI doing the groundwork and the tradesperson having the final word.

Homeowners can use it too, to understand the scope of the job before asking for quotes: which phases the work includes and roughly how many hours they take. That makes it easier to read the quotes you get.

The app is available in Finnish, English, Swedish, German, French and Spanish. If you need a bathroom renovation in the Helsinki region, see also Raslak Works bathroom renovations.

Take a photo of the bathroom and see what the job is made of.
