Why power is duplicated
A data centre is measured by availability, and an outage costs. So power is designed with redundancy: N+1 means one spare component, 2N a fully duplicated supply. Duplication covers transformers, switchboards, UPS systems and cabling, so that a single fault does not bring down the whole hall.
UPS keeps power on during an outage
A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) feeds power from batteries the moment the grid fails, before the backup generators start. It also conditions power quality. UPS rooms require their own cooling, load-bearing capacity and fire safety — all construction requirements.
Backup power for longer outages
In a long outage diesel generators take the load and keep the data centre running as long as fuel lasts. Generators, fuel tanks and their bunds, and exhaust routes require carefully built rooms and structures.
What we do — and what we don't
To be honest: Raslak Works does not do electrical installations, UPS systems or backup power — those are the work of electrical and specialist contractors with their own inspections. Our part is the building around them: electrical and UPS rooms, load-bearing bases, fire compartments and fire stops, cable-route enclosures, pours and finishes. The work is fitted to the electrical installation schedule.
Documentation and commissioning
Electrical and backup-power rooms are tested at commissioning, and construction shortcomings — fire-stop markings, compartment tightness, penetration documentation — are corrected before handover. Precise documentation of penetrations is a requirement on a data centre site, not an extra.
