Contractor's liability and company records
Finland's Contractor's Liability Act obliges the client to check a subcontractor's tax debts, pension insurance, collective agreement and registrations. An international main contractor does this carefully, often through a third-party service. The easiest route is membership of Vastuu Group's Reliable Partner programme, which keeps the records available to the client, up to date, for the whole contract period. Worker ID cards and tax numbers
Everyone working on a Finnish construction site must carry a photo ID — in practice a Valtti card — showing their tax number. An occupational safety card is also required, and usually a hot work card for anyone doing hot work. Every worker is registered on the site's personnel list in advance, and access is activated only after induction. Cards are checked at the gate every day.
Induction and site rules
A data centre induction is typically longer and more detailed than on an ordinary site. It covers routes, restricted areas, working near live equipment, dust control, hot work, lifting and emergencies. Many sites also run their own electronic reporting for observations and near misses. Inductions are often held in English, so workers' language skills need to be confirmed.
Access control and confidentiality
A data centre has areas that only a named person may enter at a named time. Tools and materials may be checked in and out, and photography is usually prohibited except at agreed points. This directly shapes how work is planned: materials arrive in precise batches, and the day's tasks are agreed in advance so nobody waits at the gate.
Documentation during the work
The biggest single difference from an ordinary site is the amount of documentation. Every fire stop is labelled and photographed, partition build-ups and materials are recorded, and changes to the design are approved in writing. The main contractor wants to see progress daily. Quality and cleanliness
In a data centre, dust is the enemy, because it ends up in the equipment. Work areas are sealed off, tools are fitted with extraction and cleaning is done daily. Finishes have to be consistent, because rooms are inspected closely before equipment goes in. A clean site is not good manners in a data centre — it is a contract condition.
